Complexities

Asa bowed to the mat in child’s pose, struggling to find her breath. Her feelings of betrayal were so strong that they were preventing her from connecting, or better said, disconnecting. She reminded herself that people are complex. Capable of both good and evil. Able to surprise and disappoint. She knew this. It was her motto. She counseled others to embrace this point of view and find forgiveness on the path to wellness. But her mind was filled with judgement. How could someone who is so careful to protect their own privacy disclose something she shared with them in the strictest confidence and leave her feeling exposed? How could someone who promised her a future, take it all back the moment she started to rely on them? Her heart was heavy and her mind raced with anxiety. On most days, finding balance on her mat wasn’t a chore but today she wobbled as if she stood in quicksand. As she moved through meditation, her guru’s words resonated within, “living life well is a practice in letting go.” Asa clung to these words to pull her into the moment and distance herself from her inner turmoil. With each breath, she practiced letting go. Inhaling harmony. Exhaling discord. Inhaling acceptance. Exhaling control. Committing more of herself to this vital practice, she continued her flow. Inhaling forgiveness. Exhaling judgement.
