Van read the text once more and considered how to respond. Not once did he consider that his avoidance of the truth was emotional torture for her. In his mind, he wasn’t stringing her along; he just needed time to make the best decision for himself. The text was Veronica's last attempt to get him to confess. She already knew the answer to the question she posed. It was cruel for him to continue to lie after he had been called out. Veronica started to hate him. He honestly wasn't ready to let go.
