You've Been Warned
First, we heard whispers. The hushed chatter traveled in tandem with a gust from the East. The elders were troubled by this subtle breach of peace but failed to sound the alarm. By the time the echo of the approaching invasion reverberated in the valley, it was too late. We were caught off guard. Thinking they were wayward travelers, we unknowingly welcomed scouts into our midst. As was our custom, we fed them and gave them shelter. Unaccustomed to kindness, they reciprocated with treachery and violence.
